THE HAPPY SONG

I could sing unending songs
of how you saved my soul
I could dance a thousand miles
    because of your great love

My heart is bursting Lord
To tell of all you've done
Of how you changed my life
    and wiped away my past
I want to shout it out
    From every rooftop sing
For now I know that God is
    for me not against me

Everybody's singing now
    cause we're so happy
Everybody's dancing now
    cause we're so happy
If only I could see your face
    See you smiling over us
And unseen angels celebrate....
For Joy is in this place!

BETTER IS ONE DAY

How lovely is
Your dwelling place
Oh Lord Almighty,
For my soul longs
And even faints
For You

Oh, here my heart
Is satisfied
Within Your presence
I sing beneath
The shadow of
Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask,
And I would seek,
To see Your beauty
To find You in
The place Your glory dwells

One thing I ask
And I would seek,
To see Your beauty
To find You in
The place Your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out
To You, the Living God
Your Spirit's water to my soul

I've tasted, and I've seen
Come once again to me
I will draw near to You
I will draw near to You
To You

GIVE THANKS

Give thanks
    with a grateful heart
Give thanks
    to the Holy One
Give thanks
    because He's given
Jesus Christ
    His Son

And now let the weak say
    I am strong
Let the poor say
    I am rich
Because of what
the Lord has done for us

Give thanks

My sermon title is In All Things. Let's pray.

Father God, thank you for this chance to be here with fellow believers and to learn of your Word. Thank you for a chance to share your insights that you have given me. I ask that my words, be yours. And may I speak your Truth here and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I am going to be sharing an issue that we all have done, every one of us followers of Christ Jesus. I know I have done it.

I have said things like “Give thanks to God in all things.” Or “Praise Him in the storm and in the calm.”

And so, we say those kinds of things, but we aren't thankful in all things. We are thankful when we have plenty and are healthy. But God  forbid we lack for anything or aren't healthy.

Those of you who are married think back before the wedding and the engagement. Some singles think that when you are married nothing goes wrong, because you are SO in love and your fairy tale has come true.

And then they get married. They find that those vows that said “for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, until death...” It seems there is more worse than better and more sickness than health.

And some can't take it. So they leave.

Ben and I have been married for almost seven years. We've had our times of ups and downs. I had gall bladder surgery and seven months later I was in the mental ward of the local hospital for eleven days all in the same year!

Through all of our ups and downs we haven't thanked God in all things, but I know I will strive for that. It will be hard for me to be thankful if I never have children biologically. But I will press on and ask God to help me to do as 1 Thess. 5:18 says, “In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” And what Eph. 5:20 says “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

Let's talk about another example of how we might need to be thankful in a horrible situation.

Let's say you have a little girl, your little princess daughter, and some man molested her.

Of course your first reaction might be anger, shock, rage, revenge. Put your own emotion in there.

And I tell you to be thankful.

“How could anyone be thankful for something like that?” I'm not thankful for the abuse, but of seeing how God will take what satan meant for bad for that situation, and turn it into good.

Those of you who have heard my testimony know that little girl could be me and was me.

Satan did try to use abuses towards me for evil, but I have turned them into good. I have not stayed silent, but spoke up. I did not stay in my pit and be far from God. I grew closer to my Heavenly Father as I learned that he had a better plan for me. I have been able to share my story and I pray I have brought the hope and healing of God to those lost in the grip of satan.

I am thankful to God for showing me a better way. A way to live. A way to more than just survive, but be victorious.

And you can, too. Remember when bad things happen, don't look at the negative. If you do, satan has you right where he wants you.

Look at the bad as a way to grow in the Lord and see how God will turn all things into good.
1 Thess. 5:18 says “In every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” And Eph. 5:20 says “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

Write those verses where you can see them so that you can remember to give God thanks in all things.

It won't be easy giving thanks to God for every thing especially when we want to know why the bad stuff happened.

How about complaining about the weather? God created it, didn't he? Should we not give thanks for it also?

It rained. Thank God that the farmers' crops will grow.
It snowed. Thank God for the beauty of the world in glittering white.

It's storming. Thank God for His majesty.

In all things give thanks to God. Big or  small. Good or bad.

In ALL things give thanks to God!

I hope and pray that you all will be able to obey this command. Remind other believers of it also. May we start a Thank God in all things revolution.

I know I need to spend time with God today and every day. I need to ask him to help me be thankful in all things. Come and join me at the altar. Speak to God about this giving thanks in all things revolution. Let's give satan some bruises and a huge heel in his stomach. He is under our feet!

Let's be victorious in our endeavor to be thankful in all things.

After this time at the altar, we'll meet in the fellowship room to your left for a time of chatting and getting to know each other.

You are free to go whenever you need to do so. May God shower you with blessings and a “giving thanks in all things” heart revolution.

God's love be upon you, before you, and all around you. Go in peace.
