I'm using the terms fireside chat as a way to describe these things that I share with you all. I know that they aren't sermons by any means. I hope you will still listen to them with open ears and hearts.

Let's pray. Lord Jesus, thank you for this time to sit together and learn from You, Your Word, and Holy Spirit. I ask that You would give us ears to hear and eyes to see as we look into the idea that there's "Just Something About Jesus" about You. Show us the way to know You more and to understand a little more about who You are and what it is about You that attracts people to You. I love You, Jesus. We love You, Lord! In the name of the Living God, Amen. Amen!

Today I want to stand before you not as the one with all the answers, but one with The Answer. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God. Messiah. Anointed One.

As I mentioned in the prayer, today's fireside chat is titled "Just Something About Jesus." There is something about the name of Jesus. There is also something about Him. The One who healed people, fed them, raised the died, allowed the unclean to touch Him, He was crucified, led away like a lamb to the slaughter, died and rose from the dead!

He did all these things and more. There must have been something about Him. We don't really know what He looked like, but Isaiah 53 verse 2 says For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

Jesus was not a man who stood out in a crowd. He was homely. But there had to be something that attracted people to Him if His appearance didn't.

Let's turn together to some stories I believe show this. Before we do that, there's a verse in John chapter 10 verse 27 where Jesus says "My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me." I believe those of us who are His sheep follow Him because He is our shepherd. I believe, too, there is something more to it.

The stories we are going to look at are some of my personal favorites.

Let's begin with some healings.

The blind man. Jesus healed him and then he was taken to the Pharisees. They questioned him, but they didn't like his answers. He didn't tell them Jesus was a sinner, but that all he knew was that he was blind and now he could see. See...there was just something about this Jesus that some hated and others were drawn to. This story is found in John chapter 9.

The lepers Jesus healed is another great story. He healed 10, but only one came back to thank him. See that one KNEW there was something about Jesus and he also had manners! :)

And the paralyzed man whose friends lowered him from the roof. They couldn't get near enough to Jesus but they KNEW something about Him. They knew that Jesus would heal their friend if they could just get close enough! and He did!

What about the centurion? His servant was ill. Let's read in Matthew chapter 8 starting at verse 5 and it reads

5 Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, 6
saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” 7 And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” 8 The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” 10 When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! 11 And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

See even this centurion KNEW that there was just something about this man, Jesus.

There was a woman with an issue of blood for 12 years. She tried everything and used up all her money, but nothing helped. She followed the crowd as Jesus walked through the town to the house of Jairus. She reached out her hand and touched the hem of his robe. She was healed immediately! She wasn't in His inner circle. She was seen as unclean in those days. But she KNEW that there was just something about Jesus who could heal her. So with faith...she touched Him. And He showed compassion when she came forward when He asked 'who touched me?' Her life was never the same. Yes, indeed, there is just something about this man, Jesus!
How about how He called the disciples? He didn't even hesitate. He called them by name and then they followed Him. See...even then there was something about Him! Something that made the fishermen drop their nets and follow Him!

The woman at the well. She had an interesting conversation with Jesus. She didn't know who He was, but by the end of their talk she did. She knew and she told everyone in the village and they followed her to see Jesus! There was something about Him that made her go and tell everyone! And then all the people were compelled to follow her to this man Jesus. He spent time there, too. There's just something...

The woman with the alabaster jar. She probably spent her whole life's savings on that jar. then, she went to the place where Jesus was KNOWING that she was not welcome and that everyone in that place knew what kind of woman she was. A sinner. A prostitute. Unclean. But she didn't let that stop her. She went and cried and poured that perfume from her alabaster jar onto His feet. She wiped His feet with her hair. See she KNEW there was just something about this man Jesus. And when He told her "Your sins are forgiven you. go and sin no more." She must have realized who this man was. Her life would never ever be the same.

Triumphant Entrance. The crowd is shouting "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" As Jesus rides into Jerusalem. a joyous time. There's something about this man.

I believe some of those people would be shouting "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" days later.

What kind of man would heal the ear of a guard who was coming to arrest Him? Jesus did! He was that kind of man. I'm sure that guard was never the same.

The disciples, Jesus' inner circle, knew things about Him no one else knew.

There was just something about Him, about Jesus. Maybe there was a glow about Him. His compassion may have drawn people to Him. Whatever it was, thousands were drawn to Him. To hear Him, to touch Him.

He must have emanated love, compassion, truth, honesty.

And...He spoke words that rang throughout history. We still ready them today.

That's how I know there is some kind of connection, magnetism that pulls us to Him. Even today...there is something about Him, about Jesus that still draws people to Him.

No matter our gender, skin color, age, heritage, career, class, eye color, hair color, good or bad. It all doesn't matter. Everyone can be drawn to Him. And those who are drawn will never be the same. After you meet Jesus, you change to be more like Him.

There's just something about Jesus. Whatever that something is isn't so important as knowing Him and having a personal relationship with Him. You can know Him today. You can begin your personal relationship with Him today. If that's you, if you want to get to know Jesus and have a personal relationship with Him, come to the altar.

I'm going to lead you in a prayer. The words aren't as important as your decision. All you need to say is Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner. Forgive my sin. I repent and turn from the sinful life I've led. Help me to walk in Your Truth and Light. In Your name I pray, amen.

Now, if you prayed that prayer I want you to tell at least one person that you did so. I'd especially like to know so I can rejoice with you as the angels are rejoicing in Heaven.

I hope you all enjoyed our "fireside chat." I'm going to call my sharing times "fireside chats" from now on.

You all are dismissed. If you need prayer or anything, please instant message me or Ben. We'll have our normal time at the altar now. Afterward, we'll have a time of chatting in the fellowship room to your left, my right. Hope to see you there.

May God bless you.

May God show you His will for your life.
May He show you that there's just something about Jesus that needs to be shared with others.

Go in God's peace that passes all understanding!
