MAKES ME WANT TO SHOUT

When I think about the Lord
how he saved me, how he raised me
How he filled me with the Holy Ghost
He healed me to the uttermost

When I think about the Lord
how he picked me up, turned me around
How he set my feet on solid ground

Makes me want to shout
Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!
Lord you're worthy
of all the glory
and all the honor
and all the praise!

REJOICE FOR THE STEPS

Rejoice for the steps of a righteous man
they are ordered of God, they are ordered of God
Rejoice for the steps of a righteous man
they are ordered of God

In the time of trouble, God will sustain him.
God will preserve him, God will uphold him
In the time of trouble, God will lift him up
so rejoice for your steps are ordered of God

DOWN AT YOUR FEET
Down at your feet O Lord
is the most high place
In your presence Lord
I seek your face, I seek your face

There is no higher calling
no greater honor
Than to bow
and kneel before your throne
I'm amazed at your glory
embraced by your mercy
O Lord, I live to worship you

TAKE ME

Here I am, take me
as an offering
Here am I, giving
every heart beat for your glory
Take me

Like you spilled Your blood
I spill my heart as an offering
To my King

Worthy, worthy, You are worthy
Worthy is the Lord
Worthy, worthy, You are worthy
Worthy is the Lord

Holy, holy, You are holy
Holy is the Lord
Holy, holy, You are holy
Holy is the Lord

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for being here with us and for guiding us here to this place where we can worship You and be with other believers. I ask that as we move forward in this service that Your presence would continue to be here. I invite You in this place, God. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today's fire side chat is titled See Through. I want us to realize that God wants us to be see through with Him and with others. See through or transparent in our relationships with Him and other people so that we are real and there are no walls or barriers in our way.

Let's look at some definitions of transparent. 1. easy to understand or recognize; 2. able to be seen through with clarity; 3. fine or thin enough to transmit light; 4. completely open and without deceit. Here is some background on the word. Transparent is derived from the Latin transparere, "to shine through." The idea is you can see through something that is transparent, both literally and figuratively. Something transparent is see-through, open, not hidden, obvious. The related noun transparency refers to the quality of being see-through, obvious, or open. I got those facts from the vocabulary-vocabulary.com website.

For our fire side chat I'll be using the words see-through, open, not hidden, transparent to mean the same things. With that in mind, I'd like you to close your eyes and listen to what I'm about to say.

You've just had the most awesome experience. You've knelt before Almighty God and have accepted His Son into your heart. You feel giddy, so happy you want to leap for joy and dance around. It's such a great experience you tell everyone you meet on the street and everyone you know about it. And then...life comes crashing in. You notice that something is holding you back from opening yourself to Jesus, but you don't know what it is. There's this invisible wall between you and Him. Maybe the wall isn't seen by your eyes, but Jesus can see it.

The wall is so high He knows you can't climb over it or so long you can't find the end of it. It's brick and no sledgehammer could break it down. Each brick was placed with your hands and only you can remove each one. Maybe the wall is a "secret sin" that you are hiding, believing only you know about it. Jesus sees it and He wants to help you deal with it, but He won't help until you let Him.

Maybe the wall is the past that you have carried around for so long. It gets in the way. Jesus wants to help with that, too. To show you have to overcome the past and any sin, but He won't without your say so. So, what are you going to do?

You may open your eyes again. I don't know if any of you have walls, barriers between you and Jesus, but later in the service you can come to the altar and start removing those things.

Let's begin by looking at the Word of God. Matthew 5: 13-16 says 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
You might be asking yourself, which does those verses have to do with being transparent? If we are transparent the light of Jesus will shine through us better. If there is no wall or barrier, the light will shine brighter.

Psalm 51 verses 5 to 13 says 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.

These verse in Psalm 51 say how the writer and even us what God to get ourselves ready to be transparent. To be washed as white as snow. To have a clean heart. All these things will happen once we allow Jesus to begin helping us remove the wall, the barrier between Him and us and we allow His love to change us from glory to glory.

Let's go to Psalm 139. More verses here that show how to be transparent and what needs to be done to achieve the goal. Allowing Jesus to see us clearly. Beginning at verse 1

1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me. 2You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether. 5 You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.

I personally believe in order to obtain transparency with God and others we need to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and to allow God to work in us.

I use the example of a caterpillar in its cocoon a lot. With this transparent topic, I want to use it again. Think about it for a moment. If we hide ourselves in a cocoon where no one, not even God, can get to us, how can we truly shine the light of Jesus? How can we do who God has called us to be? We can't. Not really. We can't be real or transparent. But if we allow God to rip off parts of the wall or cocoon that we have built around us, we will emerge as someone different. We'll come out as a beautiful butterfly and the cocoon and wall is gone. People will see the real us and know that we are just like them.

I encourage you to take down the walls you have built around you. Let people in. Let them see the true you.

2 Corinthians 3: 17 and 18 says it like this 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Let the Spirit of the Lord work in you to do His good and perfect will! Come out of that cocoon, spread your wings of freedom in Christ Jesus, and fly into the world. Let God show you the way to be transparent, to open yourself up to allow Him to work through you. He loves you very much. Let Him show you the way.

I hope this fire side chat has blessed you. May God shower you with His mercy and grace.

After the time at the altar, we'll meet in the fellowship room to my right, your left. Come and fellowship with us.

Now, go in the peace that passes all understanding. Become a free butterfly who allows Jesus to shine through. God Bless you all.
