I HAVE THE JOY
by George W. Cooke
edited by Benjamin R. Faust

I have the joy joy joy joy
down in my heart
down in my heart
down in my heart

I have the joy joy joy joy
down in my heart
down in my heart
to stay

I have the peace that passes
understanding
down in my heart
down in my heart
down in my heart

I have the peace that passes
understanding
down in my heart
down in my heart
to stay

I have the wonderful love of my
blessed redeemer way
down in the depths of my heart
down in the depths of my heart
down in the depths of my heart

I have the wonderful love of my
blessed redeemer way
down in the depths of my heart
down in the depths of my heart
to stay

CHORUS

And I'm so happy
so very happy
I have the love of Jesus
in my heart, my heart

Yes I'm so happy
so very happy
I have the love of Jesus
in my heart

I have the love of Jesus
love of Jesus
down in my heart
down in my heart
down in my heart

I have the love of Jesus
love of Jesus
down in my heart
down in my heart
to stay

(CHORUS)

And if the devil doesn't like it
he can
sit on a tack
sit on a tack
sit on a tack

And if the devil doesn't like it
he can
sit on a tack
sit on a tack
to stay

(CHORUS)

JOYFUL JOYFUL
lyrics by Henry van Dyke
music by Ludwig van Beethoven

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee,
Op'ning to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o'er us,
Brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.

FAIREST LORD JESUS
lyrics by Munster Gesangbuch
music by Schlesische Volkslieder

Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer
who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
and all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.

Our text today is from Psalm chapter 121. Let's read it together.

I lift up my eyes to the hills-
where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip-
he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you-
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm-
he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

(Psalm 121)

First the psalmist paints a picture of a person in need looking to the hills, asking himself, "From where does my help come?"

And the answer is simple yet true: "My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth."

The hills and the mountains are tall and majestic, and they are why the valleys seem so deep. The oceans are daunting, and have swallowed large, strong vessels whole, and we cannot imagine the depths thereof.

The skies are high, and beyond them lies a universe in which we are a tiny invisible speck.

And yet all of this is so much less than the One who created it.

Who made the mountains and the hills? Who made the oceans and the seas? Who made the vast, uncharted universe?

He is the same one who made you, who knit you together in your mother's womb. He is the same one who knows your every thought, your every feeling, your every fear, your every trouble, your every dream and desire.

And he is the same one who willingly clothed himself in flesh, so that he could suffer unspeakable torture and then die.

And all of this was so he could have a deep, personal, intimate love relationship with YOU.

Let's read on a little more...

"He will not let your foot slip -- He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep."

Isn't it amazing to think that not only is God aware of everything at all times, he never sleeps. He does not doze off in the middle of the night. And when you have nightmares, he sees them. When you toss and turn, longing for someone to hold you, he feels your heartache and pain.

But He wants you to know today, that He is with you. He is watching over you. You may not know in this lifetime from how many things He has saved you, and how much good He has brought to you. Most of all, He is guarding over your soul, and He is the one who brought you here today to hear the voice of His speaking His words of Love.

"The LORD watches over you -- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night."

No matter how things appear, no matter what harm we think is befalling us, the Lord is watching over us. And as we abide in His shadow, walking in His Spirit, and depending upon Him, we can know that no real harm can come to us.

Our bodies will grow old. We may at times become ill. We may have tradgedies strike, accidents or attacks may change our lives; but we can know that as we dwell in His Peace with the Prince of Peace, the real me, the real you, will be safe and secure, awaiting eternity with Him, even as we rest in that eternity in this eternal Present Moment.

"The LORD will keep you from all harm -- He will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."

Let's read this passage one more time, but let's take our time. And as we do, I encourage you to meditate upon each line. And let the Lord speak to you, and sing over you, and hold you in his arms today.
