I will enter his gates
with thanksgiving in my heart
I will enter his courts
with praise
I will say this is the day
that the Lord has made
I will rejoice for
he has made me glad

He has made me glad
he has made me glad
I will rejoice for
he has me me glad!

Jehovah Jireh, my provider
His grace is sufficient for me

My God shall supply all my needs
according to His riches in glory
He gives his angels charge over me
Jehovah Jireh cares for me,
Jehovah Jireh cares for me

Sing unto Lord a new song
sing unto the Lord all the earth

For God is great,
and greatly to be praised!

I worship you, Almighty God
there is none like you
I worship you, O Prince of Peace
that is all I want to do

I give you praise
for you are my righteousness
I worship you, Almighty God
there is none like you

There is none like you
no one else can
touch my heart like you do
I could search
for all eternity long and find
There is none like you

*** "Mawwiage" clip from The Princess Bride ***

The silly clip from The Princess Bride mentions True Love and that's our fire side chat topic for today.

The world tries to tell us one thing that true love is and we have to realize that it's wrong. The world's form of love is "fake."

Fake love is love that only lasts while the feelings are there. When the feelings fade away, so does the person.

True love is love that lasts, even through the darkest times. Not even death can separate those who experience true love.

The world tells us love is just a feeling. Don't listen to that!

Love is a choice. And I choose to love my husband every day! And I choose to love God-the greatest example of true love-every day, too. :D

Let's look at some scriptures that show God's true love for us.

One of the main ones is of course, John 3:16.

John 15:13 says Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. What the amazing thing is Jesus didn't just lay down His life for His friends, but also for His who did not know Him. That's truly amazing.

Romans 5:8 says But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

If you have read the Bible cover to cover, you will notice that there are many, many times that God's chosen people sinned. Not just the whole nation, but also individual people. People just like you and I who "let Him down" so to speak. We fall short of the mark, the standard, but we should continue on to righteousness. We shouldn't give up.

God shows His love for us when He reaches out His hand of love, compassion, mercy, and grace.

There's an old hymn I love to sing. It's called "The Love of God." It talks about how God's love is so big for us that even if we wrote about it, all the ink in the ocean would run dry. We'd run out of paper :) That's why we can't fully know the love God has for us here, but I believe when we get to heaven, everything that is unclear here about God's love will be known. I can't wait for that day.

Matthew 22:37 which reads Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." These verses help us see how we are to love God and others. If we love God with our everything and love others as ourselves, we will do well in this world.

See, the world has this idea that love is only feelings, which are only surface things. Feelings are important and good, usually, but they are not THE most important thing. Feelings can change. They are here today and possibly gone tomorrow.

Lasting love isn't about feelings, but about commitment, about the deeper things.

I have some examples from my personal experience with true love. Most of you know I met my husband, Ben, online. Some might say how is that possible. You didn't even get to see his face until months later. He could have been 60 years old (compared to my then 20 years of age) and bald, etc etc. But he wasn't. He was everything that he said he was and I loved our conversations and grew to love him through his words.

The first time I heard his voice was amazing. To this day, I still like to hear him talk though he isn't much of a talker. I'm the talkative one in our house :)

We've had our share of roller coaster events. Mostly health based. So many people believe that when you are with your loved one that everything will be peaches and cream! It isn't true! Life is not peaches and cream all the time. Things happen, but if your foundation isn't built on the sandy ground of can withstand the test of time.

Since our relationship is built on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ, we may feel a bit shaken at times, but we withstand the storms. The boat might rock, but it won't sink.

You may be saying to yourself, but that is you, not me. I can never have that kind of true love. Yes, you can! If you love God with everything you have, you choose to have true love! You choose God! He loves you with an everlasting love that is far better than any fairy tale romance this world can imagine. Just because you don't have the worldly love doesn't mean true love is out of reach.

God loves us all. Some of us are lost in a sea of fake love and the True Love is walking on the water. Look up. He's coming for you. He'll take your hand and lead you to the solid rock of true love that you have been searching for all along.

My friends, I ask you to get out of your seats and come stand at the altar. I want us to spend some time with Jesus. Imagine this. You walk into a cafe and you look around. And you see Him. Jesus. He's sitting at a table for two. He smiles at you and beckons you to sit with Him. He join Him and you begin to talk with him. What kind of conversation will you have? Speak your mind. Listen to His heart.

That's what I want you to do right now. And it's okay if you cry. :)

For some of you, this will be your first time talking to Jesus. For some, it's been to long since you sat with Him like this. For others, you're not sitting beside Him, but on His lap enjoying your daily, hourly conversation with Him. However it is for you, take some time. Talk. Listen. Be.

Afterward, we'll have a time of fellowship. Please join us!
Let's end in prayer. Lord Jesus, thank You for this word and for Your presence here. I ask that we would remember our True Love, You. I ask that we would speak more and more time with You and to return to our first Love. Go with us as we leave here. Jesus' name, Amen.

Go in God's love and mercy. May peace be with you. Have a great week and see you back next Sunday.
