I love to be in your presence
with your people singing praises
I love to stand and rejoice
lift my hands and raise my voice

You set my feet to dancing
you fill my heart with song
You give me reason to rejoice,

We bring the sacrifice of praise
into the house of the Lord
We bring the sacrifice of praise
into the house of the Lord
And we offer up to you
the sacrifices of thanksgiving
And we offer up to you
the sacrifices of joy

Father, I adore you
Lay my life before you
How I love you

Father God, as we transition from singing into hearing Your Word, I ask that You would remind us that we are still in Your presence and that we must choose to focus on You. Guide my words Lord as I share what I believe You have placed on my heart. I ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

You may be seated.

Today the fireside chat is titled “Today is the Day.” What I want you to do is get comfortable for I am going to take you on a journey. I ask that you all take what I say carefully and to make sure it agrees with the Word.

In Genesis, it is written that man disobeyed God and was therefore kicked out of Eden. Sin had entered the perfect world that God had created. God knew that there would come a time, a day where sin would have to be dealt with.

All throughout the Old Testament, there are times when God judged the people harshly due to sin. He would try other things, but the people would not turn from their wicked ways. And God in His way...the way of a Father disciplining His children...He would send the judgment.

God knew there would come a time, a day that sin would be atoned for once and for all. There would be no more sacrifices. For there would be ONE final sacrifice.
This sacrifice was foretold before it came to pass. The story is told in the New Testament. I like to tell it like this for today.

God is sitting on His throne. Angels are worshiping and flying about. Some are delivering messages. Some are being sent out.

One Angel keeps coming up to the throne, “Is it time, Holy One? Shall I summon Gabriel?”

“Not yet,” God replied.

One day, the angel comes to the throne. “Is it time, Holy One? Shall I summon Gabriel?”

God smiled. “Summon Gabriel! Today is the day!” The call went out. The angel flew off.

Today was the day! And in a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David the angel Gabriel was sent. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. That's found in Luke chapter 1 verses 27-38.

Today is the day! How excited heaven must have been to hear it was time! Today! This day! The day that all of heaven and earth had been waiting for. The announcement of the virgin carrying the Child. The One that would save the world.

Let's go a few months into the future to another announcement! The one told to shepherds.

Luke chapter 2 verses 8-20 says:

8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will bethe sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” 15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.

17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

Today is the day! Jesus has been born Who is called the Christ! The Son of the Living God! Can you just hear the heavens ringing with that proclamation? The earth did, too, of course.
Our journey continues. 33 years into the future. Jesus is in the garden, praying.

“Today is the day,” God says. There is no smile this time.

The soldiers come and take Jesus away. There is no interference of heaven. God sits in sorrowful silence.

Jesus is giving a crown of thorns, a cross to carry. His back is bleeding from the whiplashes. And today is the day. He's the final sacrifice.

“My Son.” God whispers.

Jesus is led to Golgotha. His hands and feet are nailed to the cross.

Matthew chapter 27:
45 Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. 46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!” 48 Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.
49 The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

Today was the day. Jesus died. And God watched. For today was the day of the final sacrifice. Jesus paid it all in full. He paid the price for my sin and yours.
But His death is not the end. Oh no it isn't! Praise God it isn't!

What was heaven like those three days? Did the angels know what was happening?

No matter if they did or didn't, I am sure it was exciting when God called for two angels to go and “awaken Jesus!”

Let's go there now. For today is the day of Jesus' resurrection!!

Matthew chapter 28:1-10

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.

5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.6 He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”

8 So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”

Today is the day! Today we remind ourselves of the angel visiting Mary, Jesus' birth, His capture in the garden, His death, and resurrection. Today can be an amazing day for you. It can be a day that you realize that you are here at this place, at this time for a reason.

You and I are here in Second Life on Sunday August 8th, 2013 for a reason. I don't believe for one minute it is by chance! It was and is a divine appointment set up by God for His purpose! Are you going to realize that?

Maybe you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Today is the day! Yes, today! Don't wait! Accept Him. Turn away from your sins. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, and you will be saved! Jesus has changed my life. He can change yours, too, if you but let Him. Today is YOUR day of visitation!

He has invited you here. Not because of me or Ben or anyone else, but because HE is here! He sent out an invitation for His day of visitation! Will you heed His voice and come to him?

For those of us that are followers of Jesus Christ, you may think that this altar call is not for you. But I want to you listen to this. Today is your day to do that which God has called you to do. Today is your day to worship him deeper, to pray longer, to be Jesus to those around you. Today is your day to grow closer to God, to be overwhelmed in His presence. Today is your day to let Him show you where He wants you to be.

Today is the day. Today is the day that the Lord has made. I WILL rejoice and be glad.

Please don't leave today without taking some time to reflect on what God has spoken to you and is speaking to you. God wants us to grow in our walk with Him. He wants us so close to Him.
Can you feel His breath? Do you know His voice? Has His wooing captured your heart?

Today is your day. Come to the altar. Come and seek God. If you need prayer or ministry, please message one of us and we will be happy to help you.

I encourage you all to come to the altar. God is truly wanting us to draw near to Him today.

After this time at the altar, we'll fellowship in the room to your left, and I hope you'll come join us.

You are free go whenever you wish. May God bless you with many moments in which His love, His voice, and His faithfulness woo you ever closer to His side.
