Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee,
Op'ning to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o'er us,
Brother love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.

Salvation belongs to our God
Who sits upon the throne
And unto the lamb
Be praise and glory
Wisdom and thanks
Honor and power and strength

Be to our God
Forever and ever
Be to our God
Forever and ever
Be to our God
Forever and ever, amen

And we the redeemed shall be strong
In purpose, and unity
Declaring aloud
Praise and glory
Wisdom and thanks
Honor and power and strength

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
perfect in power, in love and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,
God in three persons, blessed Trinity.

I love you, Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship You
Oh, my soul rejoice!
Take joy my King
In what You hear
Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear

Father God, Thank You for this time in Your presence. Thank You for this opportunity to come before You in worship. Lord Jesus, as we continue this time of worship, as we go to Your Word, I ask that You would fill us with Your presence and that we would focus completely on You. As we draw near to You, wrap us in Your arms of love. We pray this in Your beautiful, precious name...the name that is above all other names...the name of Jesus, Amen!

Please be seated.

Please ready yourself for a fire side chat. I called it “While I Wait” or maybe even better: Pursuing God While I Wait. I don't know if you all are like me, but for the most part while I wait for something or someone, I am not sitting idly by. No sir! I am ACTIVELY waiting. I am doing something. If I am waiting for my husband, Ben, I do not just sit and twiddle my thumbs. I'm looking at email, listening to music. If we are going out, I get myself ready for example: I put on my shoes, my jacket, etc etc. I am not a passive waiting kind of person.

In a way that is how we should be with God, too. If we are waiting for God to do something in our lives, we shouldn't be PASSIVELY WAITING for Him to move. We should continue worshiping Him, loving Him, pursuing Him.

Maybe for you, this isn't a bit deal to you. Maybe you are thinking “well of course, Mari! We should be continuing to do those things.” Okay. So you say, but are your actions following that?

Let's look at the definition of pursue. It means to follow something or someone. To follow someone or something specifically. Are you in “hot pursuit” of God as you wait for Him to do whatever it is that you are waiting for Him to do?

Even if He doesn't answer your prayer or prayers the way you want Him to, are you STILL going to pursue Him just as much as you were before?

Did you hear that last question? I'll repeat it in a different way. Are you still going to pursue God in the same way if He doesn't answer your prayers in the way you want Him to?
I'll let you ponder that for a moment. I'll even give you my answer later.

I'm sitting here in my office here in Real Life and I realize that many of my fire side chats, if not all of them, focus on our relationship...our personal relationship with God. How can we get closer to Him? How can we show our love for Him?

I'm trying to think of a time in the Bible where someone is waiting for God's answer, but they continue to worship Him, etc. Sarah is not a good example. I mean she is a bad example of what can happen when we decide to not wait on God and just do whatever. When we are impatient, we try to make what God has promised to come true instead of waiting for God to do what He has said on His time. We “go over God's head” since impatience has mastered us and we can't wait anymore.

So, no Sarah is not a good choice.

Psalm 27:14 says
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Is the Psalmist talking about passively waiting, doing nothing, or is this the actively waiting? If we pray as we wait for God's answer, is that not doing something? If we worship God while we wait, is that not doing something?

When you wait on God, pray and worship Him. Do these things to continue your pursuit of Him. He is faithful in answering. He will see what you do even in secret and reward you. No, that doesn't mean what you are waiting for will happen, but it does mean that God will reward you for your faithfulness.

While you wait. While you wait. While you wait.

Psalm 39:7
“And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

This Psalm reminds me that my hope is only in God. If that is true for you also, I believe that means that since my hope is in God I wait patiently for whatever You oh Lord will give me. No matter what it may be, my hope is in You!

Let's continue looking in the Psalms. It's one of my favorite books of the Bible. In Psalm 130 the Psalmist writes:

1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.

3 If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning- Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
8 And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

My soul waits for the Lord. While I wait, I read His Word, pray, worship Him...in other words as our relationship grows I STILL wait for God to move in whatever situation. I am an active “waiting on God” person.

Do you believe that God waits for us? I personally do. Maybe not in the same way as we wait for Him. I mean I don't think He gets anxious...like I do or impatient. I don't believe He is like that, but I do believe He waits for us.
Here's a verse that talks a little bit about God waiting.

Isaiah 30:18
Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

Interesting isn't it? That God would wait for us. The Creator of all things...waits for us.

It's like that story I told awhile ago...years ago even...about Jesus waiting for us. He wants to spend time with us and so He waits patiently. Holy Spirit nudges us to free up time for Him, but we get distracted. We are so busy. The day slips away and it is now night. All we can say before we go to bed is a short prayer. Sure, He is happy to hear from us, but He has waited all day for us.

Are you as urgent in your waiting for God to do something for you as He is for you to spend time with Him? And while you wait, are you thinking of Him or just demanding His attention? Are you arrogant in your waiting for Him?

Or do you see Him? Do you truly, truly see the God that creation all things? Do you see Elohim waiting for you? Do you take time to go to your secret place and spend time with Him? Do you see Him?

In the quiet, stillness of the day...as you wait...do you notice the still, small voice of God speaking to you to come to Him? It has nothing to do with what you are waiting for. It has EVERYTHING to do with Him!

Are you waiting just for what He can give you or are you waiting for something more? Something more important than what you have asked for. Are you waiting for Elohim to come and be with you? Isn't that what we all should be waiting for? For His voice to speak to us. For Him to show up in the room and to just be with us!

You know, He wants us to be with Him. He wants us to want to be with Him. He waits for you, for me. Are we going to make Him wait some more?

If God has called you to come to Him, what are you waiting for? Are you waiting for lightning to flash and a thundering voice to shake the earth to call your name? Are you waiting for some sign that it is God?

If you are feeling the prompting of Holy Spirit to come to God, don't wait. Get alone with God. You can come to the altar here. You can find a quiet place in Real Life. Do something to let God know you are focused on Him. Don't wait anymore.

And while you continue to wait for God...read His Word, pray, and worship. Build your relationship with Him. Don't grow cold towards Him because He hasn't answered yet or answered “the wrong way.”
Do you remember when I told you I would answer that question? Do you even remember the question?

The question was: Are you still going to pursue God in the same way if He doesn't answer your prayers in the way you want Him to?

My answer is, yes I will still pursue God no matter what...even if God answers my prayers in a way I don't like. I know some of you will say “You can say that now, but what if the situation comes up?” Well, by God's grace, I make my choice today: I will be ready. I will still pursue God. While I wait on God, I will read His Word, pray, and worship Him. I will continue on this path.

Will you join me? Will you read His Word, pray, and worship God while you wait on Him?

I want to close with the reading of the Word of God. Isaiah 40 verses 25-31 and it reads:

25 “To whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing.

27 Why do you say, O Jacob,
And speak, O Israel:
“My way is hidden from the Lord,
And my just claim is passed over by my God”?
28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Let us wait on the Lord. Let us wait actively on the Lord. Read His Word. Pray. Worship Him.

God knows the things we are waiting for. He waits for us to come to Him.

Today, before you leave, spend a few moments with God. Have a cup of coffee with Him. Talk to Him. Cry with Him. He wants you to spend time with Him.

And while you wait...seek His face.

This altar is open if you wish to come here to spend time with God. If you need prayer or ministry, please message on of us on the ministry team and we will help you the best we can.

After this time at the altar, you all are invited to come to the room to you left for a time of fellowship.

May God bless you as you wait actively for Him. May you respond to Him with praise and thanksgiving. Go in His peace.
