I want to start with a prayer specific to today's topic.

Father God, Sometimes life isn't so easy. I try to do things on my own, my way, and in my time. It never turns out the way I want when I try to do things on my own, my way, and in my time.

However, I am sure You are well aware, that when I do things with You, Your way, and in Your time everything works out for my good. All I ask is that you help me remember that. I pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
Some of you know that Ben and I have been married for almost twelve years and are childless.

It has become a burden that I try to bare on my own. I carry it with me...this childlessness. I sometimes feel that I am not blessed at all or am not as blessed as those with children.

It is my yoke I carry that I refuse to give up at times.

And I hear the voice of Father God telling me to take His yoke upon me for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

And did you know, sometimes I want to hold onto my yoke and my burden. Maybe subconsciously I believe that I can help myself better than Father God can help me. Of course, that isn't true. But maybe somewhere in my brain, I believe it to be true.

That is where my true problem lays. Not so much in having the burden, but not wanting to give it up.

In reality, the truth of the matter is that it is okay to have a burden. It is not okay to keep it.

Father God wants to help us. He wants to show us how to take His yoke upon us. But we don't make anything easy. We complicate EVERYTHING.

Father God says to “Love Thy Neighbor.” We want to know specifically who is my neighbor.

Father God says to “care for the widows and orphans.” We say how can I when I can barely take care of myself. “God be reasonable!”

Because somehow...some way God lost His reason, His intelligence and we need to remind Him of that fact.

Because how can He be serious about us taking His yoke upon us when we know without a doubt we can solve this care, this burden on our own!

We don't NEED to take His yoke upon us! We've got this all sorted out! We can deal with this! We can fix it!

We get prepared to sort, deal, and fix the issue...this burden we've carried.

First, we sort it. We put the pieces into little categories. What to do today, what to do tomorrow, etc. etc.

Next, we deal with it. We use our coping mechanism, whatever that may be and we cope...we deal...we plunge ahead at full force...until...the final stage...the fix it!

Finally, we fix it. We get glue, duct tape, staples, whatever else to fix the issue. Maybe even a band-aid or ten :) for good measure.

And then...as an extra bonus...we wrap it up in pretty paper, tape all over it, a big bow, and send it into the air.

It's how we sort, deal, fix it...we let it go!

Not realizing that we inadvertently put a boomerang inside the box...because here comes our package plummeting back to earth. It lands a few feet away from us and slithers its way to us.

It's like there is an invisible thread that connects us to this burden. Now, we understand. It seems that the only way to free ourselves from this burden is to take His yoke upon us...for His yoke is easy and His burden...unlike ours...His is light!

And thank goodness boomerang FREE!

Maybe some of you are carrying a heavy burden. You've tried to carry it, but can't anymore. You've tried getting rid of it, but that boomerang effect and invisible thread have you prisoner.

I know what you need to do.
Listen to the One who said in the Bible “Take My yoke upon you.” His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Come on. What do you have to lose except that burden you carry?
