addition lyrics by Benjamin Faust

Rejoice in the Lord always
and again I say rejoice!
Rejoice in the Lord always
and again I say rejoice!

Rejoice, rejoice
and again I say rejoice!
Rejoice, rejoice
and again I say rejoice!

This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be glad today
In His Presence is the fullness of His Joy complete
so I come and I lay my troubles and cares at the Master's feet

Not height, not depth, not the shadow of death
can ever separate me from how He Loves me with
His Joy that's overflowing as it's bubbling up
Rejoicing is the wine of God that's filling my cup

lyrics by Munster Gesangbuch
music by Schlesische Volkslieder

Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, Thee will I honor,
thou, my soul's glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer
who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
and all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.

by Benjamin R. Faust

You are holy
great and worthy
All creation is
full of Your glory
Angels prostrate
fall - and with one voice proclaim
Glory and Majesty to
Whom for all eternity reigns! (He reigns!)
(Him for all eternity)

To Him who sits on the throne
Glory and honor and praise
forever and ever
And to the Lamb who was slain
And set us free from the grave
and those who know Him are free

Thank You Father for meeting us here in this place. I ask that You would continue to be with us as we go into Your word, the things You would have me share. May Your will be done in this place. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today, I am doing a fireside chat. I have titled it Come Closer. It has stemmed from a song I wrote. The lyrics are in the notecard that you got from the pulpit. As I wrote them, I cried. They were so profound to me and I hope they have some meaning for you as well.
Most of the lyrics are written from the point of God. I am not saying I know the mind of God or anything like that. He is still a mystery to me. What I am saying is that I understand Him a bit and so I wrote this song from that knowledge.

There were people in the Bible who had encounters with God. David was called a man after God's own heart even though he sinned. He was after all human.

How about Moses? In Exodus, God called Moses to the top of the mountain. The people were to go up there, but they didn't. They were afraid. Of course, they were! Here, let's read what it says.

This is Exodus chapter 19 verses 20-25, which says

20 Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
21 And the Lord said to Moses, "Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to gaze at the Lord, and many of them perish.
22 Also let the priests who come near the Lord consecrate themselves, lest the Lord break out against them."
23 But Moses said to the Lord, "The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai; for You warned us, saying, 'Set bounds around the mountain and consecrate it.'"
24 Then the Lord said to him, "Away! Get down and then come up, you and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the Lord, lest He break out against them."
25 So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.

Now, this might just be me, but in a way it seems like God was angry because the people didn't want to come up the mountain. They were saying "Moses, you go up there and talk to God. He's so powerful and we are so afraid."

And I think God was saying in His own way, "Won't you come a little bit closer." The people didn't want to come closer. It's sad to think that there are those who would rather stay where they are instead of getting closer to God.

This song you will hear soon is really what I think God says to us. He wants us to be closer to Him. He wants us not to be afraid. He wants us to understand Him in these ways.

If we would open up to Him, we could see so much of His love and care for us. We would not be so sad or depressed. We could see Him for Who He really is.

What I would like all of us to do right now is to find a spot where we can get close to God. He is calling us closer and I don't want us to be like the Israelites of Exodus 19, where they did not draw close. I want us to draw close to Him and to be with Him.

Get to that spot. We are going to listen to that song. Let the words wash over you. Allow God to minister to you.

Yes, this is the altar call. Yes, if you need prayer or ministry, please instant message one of the staff members. We'll be glad to help you.

May He Who speaks in a still small voice call you to come a little bit closer to Him.
