JOYFUL JOYFUL
lyrics by Henry van Dyke
music by Ludwig van Beethoven

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee,
Op'ning to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heav'n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow'ry meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

Mortals, join the happy chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o'er us,
Brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.

JOY UNSPEAKABLE
by Barney Elliott Warren

I have found His grace is all complete,
He supplieth every need;
While I sit and learn at Jesus' feet,
I am free, yes, free indeed.

I have found the pleasure I once craved,
It is joy and peace within;
What a wondrous blessing, I am saved
From the awful gulf of sin.

I have found that hope so bright and clear,
Living in the realm of grace;
Oh, the Savior's presence is so near,
I can see His smiling face.

I have found the joy no tongue can tell,
How its waves of glory roll;
It is like a great o'erflowing well,
Springing up within my soul.

CHORUS:
It is joy unspeakable and full of glory,
Full of glory, full of glory;
It is joy unspeakable and full of glory,
Oh, the half has never yet been told.

LORD YOU'VE BEEN SO GOOD
by Benjamin R. Faust

VERSE ONE
Lord, You've been so good to me
You gave me sight when I was blind
You showed me light I could not see
You brought me truth I could not find

Lord, You've been so good to me
You paid a debt I could not pay
You turned my darkest night to day
Lord You've been so good to me!

CHORUS
And so I praise You in the morning
and I praise You in the night
For You are my Salvation
You are my Guiding Light
So I give You my everything
I just can't give You less
When You sent Your Son to love me
You gave me Your best!

VERSE TWO
Lord, You've been so good to me
You set my feet on solid ground
You rescued my life from the grave
when no other help could be found
Lord, You've been so good to me
and I could never repay
All the love You gave so freely
Lord, You've been so good to me!

(CHORUS)

BRIDGE
Lord You've been so good to me
Lord You've been so good to me (better than I deserve)
Lord You've been so good to me
You paid a debt I could not pay
You turned my darkest night to day
Lord You've been so good to me

Lord You've been so good to me
Lord You've been so good to me (you're good all the time)
Lord You've been so good to me
and I could never repay
All the love You gave so freely
Lord You've been so good to me

(CHORUS)

You gave me Your best!
You gave me Your best!

Lord, You've been so good to me.

Father God, thank You for bring us to this place and to this time. Thank You for showing us how we can say Hallelujah even in the midst of sorrow and pain, hardship and joy. I ask that my words be Yours and that all that is done here bring You glory. I pray all this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Today is the first Sunday of the new year. The year 2019. Do you remember when back in the year 2000 it felt like everyone had the "Y2K" bug? Was the world going to end in 2000 or before because of the "bug?" It was a crazy time. But here we are. All those predictions of when the world was going to end and Jesus would come back. As far as I can see, He has not returned yet. There have been things that have happened since Y2K. It has been 19 years after all.

As you look back on this past year, don't forget to look forward. To see what may be coming. We don't know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow. He also holds our hands.

There is a song that I like to listen to and I sing it a lot. It is called "Hallelujah" and it is by Bethany Dillon. In this song, the chorus goes like this:

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Whatever's in front of me
Help me to sing hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Whatever's in front of me
I'll choose to sing hallelujah

Help me to sing...I'll choose to sing...Hallelujah. These simple words mean a lot especially if you understand what the word Hallelujah means.
Dictionary.com says the word Hallelujah means Praise ye the Lord! It is also a shout of joy, praise, or gratitude.

So, let's talk about this for a moment. Bethany Dillon is singing a song saying that whatever is in front of her...and whatever...means the good...the bad. The happy. The sad. Something that could make you scared. Something that could make you dance. Whatever it is...whatever it is...Bethany is saying...help me to sing Hallelujah. I believe she is asking God to help her sing praise, sing worship to Him no matter what she is facing. She is also saying she will choose to sing Hallelujah.

This is no simple task. It is hard to stand before your circumstances and say "help me to sing Hallelujah, Lord" and "I choose to sing Hallelujah" no matter what.

I don't think when we say Hallelujah in the midst of whatever we are going through that it lessens the pain, sorrow, etc. No. I just think it gives us another look. We can sing Hallelujah with tears in our eyes because we know our circumstances, but we will still praise the Lord no matter what.

The storm may rage around us, but we will stand and sing Hallelujah. We may need to ask God for help in doing so. We may need to take a deep breath and choose to sing it loudly, but we will sing Hallelujah.

For this day, whatever circumstance you find yourself in I hope and pray you will sing Hallelujah with me. I know for myself I need to ask for help to sing it many times, but I will also choose to sing Hallelujah. Will you join me in prayer and praise as we stand in our circumstances and sing Hallelujah?

Come and join me at the altar in a few minutes.

If you need prayer or ministry, please message one of us on the ministry team and we will help in any way we can. If you happen to be outside of Second Life and you wish to contact the pastors, please go to almcyberchurch.org and click on the pastors' offices. Leave your message there and we will reply as soon as we can.

After this time at the altar, we will have a fellowship time up the stairs to your left. All are invited to join us there. If you need to leave, you are free to go whenever you need to go.

May God bless you this week. May you find yourself singing Hallelujah even in the midst of your circumstances.

Go in peace.
